Meet The Ambassador - First Up it's Jo Mitchinson

Science Fitness Brand Ambassadors form a huge part of who we are, they range from elite endurance athletes to hardcore weekend warriors, from Triathletes to Open Water Swimmers to Sky Divers and everywhere in between. They embody the spirit of endurance and we want to shout about them, so in the first of our series entitled Meet The Ambassador, it's the turn of our very own Open Water swimming champ, Jo Mitchinson.

Jo achievements are seriously impressive. She is the ASA National Masters 3km open water champion and has previously held British masters records in 200m, 400m and 1500m free. She is also the East of England masters 2km open water champ 2014 and the 2nd fastest female at the Great East Swim 2014

Jo swims for the Stevenage Swimming Club and also races for Transition Tri. Her story becomes even more inspirational after we found out that in July 2013, Jo had major reconstructive surgery to her knee. Rather than giving up the sport she loved, she embraced another discipline of that sport and used it to her advantage. Jo tells us more:

"I was told I would never dive/tumble turn again and that I should be grateful that I can walk pain free. Switching to open water (no turns/dives etc) gave me a new focus. My knee is now stable enough to both dive and tumble, much to the surprise of my consultants. I train hard and love to race."

Jo Mitchinson Medal Ceremony

Jo is now in fine form, she recently won the Box End Boxing Day Nippy Dip and claimed a bronze medal over 30m in the UK Cold Water Swimming Championships 2015

Her goal is to finish top 5 in the World Masters Open Water Championships in 2016. With the support of Science Fitness behind you and the way your results are going, we think thats pretty much nailed on!

You can follow Jo's blog to keep up to date with her latest exploits or follow her on Twitter. Our favourite post of Jo's has got to be the picture of her soon after her swim in the UK Cold Water Championships. We think it pretty much sums up how any open water swimmer must be just after an event. They feel elated from the win, but whats the next feeling? COLD!!!!

Jo Mitchinson, elated but cold
