The UEC European Cyclo-cross European Championships are taking place this Saturday 7th November in Huijbergen, Netherlands. Cyclo-cross is extremely popular in the Netherlands with the province of Huijbergen having a particularly long association with the sport starting over 60 years ago. The event is expected to draw crowds of around 15,000+ spectators. This isn’t the first championship event Huijbergen has hosted, having already hosted the Dutch National championships and International events as well as this very event back in 2006.
In the Women’s event Nikki Harris is representing Great Britain. Nikki is coming into this event in great form after recently achieving a 3rd place finish in the most recent international race. The 28 year old also came 3rd in the European championships last year. She finished just 5 seconds behind winner, Sanne Cant (Belgium) and 3 seconds behind Pavla Havlikova (Czech Republic) in second place. Sanne Cant will provide stiff competition again this year as she is currently top of the world rankings. Great Britain are also represented by 9-time British champion Helen Wyman who finished 4th last year just behind Nikki.
Huijbergen is one hour ahead of GMT.
