"I am an amateur endurance athlete who is refusing to let creaking knees and sore hips get in the way of completing ultra distance triathlons. I have always been active and after a completing 10 years in the Army I was looking for a new challenge. I initially completed a few ultra marathons however injuries forced me to re-think how I could stay active without wrecking my body. I still had the desire to complete distance events so looked at doing an Ironman and completed my first one in 2013. I have been hooked ever since."
"In 2015 I took part in the Brutal Triple Ironman. Run out of Llanberis (my new spiritual home for all things ultra!) it consists of a 7.2 mile swim, 348 miles of cycling and 3 full marathons run over trails and roads. It was an epic and I was well supported by a great team of family and friends. I finished in fifth with a time of 61 hrs and 35 mins. The other great thing about the event was meeting new friends and fellow athletes – we all helped each other through the challenge and I have kept in touch with many of the competitors since the race."
"It depends what I am doing. On a long event I crave “real” food and a scrambled egg sandwich with plenty of ketchup will make me very happy!"
"I usually train with music and have a couple of playlists that have my favorites. I like everything from Queen and Def Leppard all the way through to pop and dance music. When the going gets tough I get something with a high bpm and see if I can keep up!"
"In September 2016 I have planned and will complete a Deca Iron Distance Triathlon. I will look to complete an Iron Distance Triathlon per day around Llanberis for 9 days. On the 10th day I will complete the Brutal Iron Distance Triathlon, the toughest triathlon in the world. I am writing a blog on how my training is going at https://ugly10tri.wordpress.com. If you are in Llanberis between 1st – 10th September come and support me!"
